The Pakistan Government, on the 1st of March, released Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, an Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot.
The Pakistan Government, on the 28th of February, declared its decision to release Wg Cdr Varthaman as a gesture of peace.
The decision was taken after the United States asked the Pakistan Government to take actions for the de escalation of the tense situation between India and Pakistan.
On the 27th of February, Wg Cdr Varthaman, who was piloting a MiG 21, was captured by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF.)
Mehmood Qureshi, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, said, the Government of Pakistan was willing to consider the pilot’s release as a way of de escalating the situation, however, Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, wanted it to be a gesture of peace.
The release is said to be a peacemaking initiative by the Pakistan Government. However, the Indian Government refused to hold any discussions with the Pakistan Government until the latter does not act against the terrorists residing in Pakistan.
Indian politicians such as Mehbooba Mufti and Amrinder Singh took to Twitter and expressed their happiness about the release of the IAF pilot.
