One of the biggest cholera vaccination drives has been launched by the United Nations in the refugee camps in Bangladesh. The move was made on Tuesday in the midst of fear of an outbreak among the million Rohingya Muslims living there.

The U.N., is coordinating with the Bangladesh government to provide oral vaccination to 650,000 people who are living in camps.

UNICEF spokesman A. M. Sakil was quoted saying, “These people lack most of the basic services like toilets, water sanitation and everything. When we have this kind of situation, there’s a heavy possibility of a cholera outbreak.”

Bangladesh is a poor and overpopulated country that had been struggling to help the mass group of people that have been arriving wounded and malnourished.

Just yesterday nearly 10,000 refugees arrived at the Bangladesh border seeking safety from the mass killings of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

World Health Organisation workers with the help of thousand local volunteers plan to vaccinate all the Rohingya Muslims in the next few weeks.

The United Nations has warned Bangladesh of the spread of diseases among the refugees as nearly 800,000 of them are living in one massive camp. The U.N., points that such a large concentration in one area could promote diseases.
