The victim has been identified as Upender Prasad (45) from Faridabad in Haryana. He boarded the train at Chandigarh railway station and was to get off at Delhi station and travel to the outskirts of the capital to reach his hometown.

A senior government railway police official reported, “Prasad in a complaint said he boarded the Chandigarh-Kerala Sampark Kranti Express’s coach for the disabled. Three physically fit men, aged between 20 and 24, were also traveling in the same coach.”

Raj Bachchan, the Station House Officer reported the complaint, “As the train started moving, the men started smoking and Prasad opposed it. Enraged over it, they hurled abuses and kicked and punched him. They snatched Prasad’s purse, mobile phone and even tried to strangulate him. When the train neared Model Town, about 25 km from Chandigarh, they threw him out.”

Upender Prasad was unconscious and once he gained consciousness he took the help of people in the area who rushed him to Ambala civil hospital. He was admitted for a fracture in his left leg and shoulder and a head injury.

The attackers have been booked and a complaint has been registered for the attempt of murder and theft. CCTV footage is being scanned for any clues by the railway officials in Chandigarh.
