The General Secretary of AIADMK V.K. Sasikala faced another hurdle on Wednesday as O. Panneerselvam issued a notice to the Bank Of India, which holds the party accounts, to not operate the AIADMK party bank account without his consent.
The present Chief Minister Panneerselvam wrote a letter to the bank manager of the Bank of India requesting not to let anyone else operate the party’s bank account. He wrote, “ The party’s current bank account ‘No. 801220110000521’ should not be operated without his written consent and personal instructions. O. Panneerselvam issued this letter as he is also the treasurer of the AIADMK.
On Tuesday, Sasikala Natarajan removed Panneerselvam from the post of Treasurer after he went against her decision to take up the leadership of the State. Panneerselvam in this issue, presented rule 20 sub-clause 2 of the bylaws of the AIADMK that says that the general secretary has to be appointed in accordance to take a decision.
After J. Jayalalithaa passed away the post of general secretary has been vacant. This means that under sub-clause 5 of the 20 bylaws of the party, the treasurer can hold his office until a new general secretary is appointed to the party to take care of proceedings. Until the general secretary is appointed O. Panneerselvan holds the power over operations of all the bank accounts, freezing Sasikala’s access to them.
