The government after Demonetisation has increased importance with the increase of digital economy and digital and Aadhar Card payments. In an attempt to increase the use of Aadhar payments, the Centre has now declared that mobile numbers can be linked to Aadhar number so as to increase easy financial transactions. This will reduce the work of visiting Aadhar enrollment offices and branches.
MVS Rami Reddy, deputy director general of Unique Identity Authority of India (UIDAI) speaking to a popular news daily said,”This is not mandatory, but it will enable customers to use their phones as wallets and enrolment centers. A lot of people who got Aadhaar numbers did not fill their phone numbers in the forms.”
According to reports, all the works of Aadhar card can be done by the mobile number once it is linked. All the users need to do is upload a set of documents to the mobile phone. This will also help in accessing their bank accounts that are linked to the mobile number and if Aadhar is unregistered it can be linked through the mobile number.
The linked Aadhar and mobile numbers will help in paying at shops with mobile instead of e-wallets or applications. Aadhar enabled PoS will be available at shops where the payment can be made with fingerprint or One Time Password received on the mobile number. The amount will directly be deducted from the account linked to a phone number.
All those who have connected mobile numbers to Aadhar can link bank account directly. But those who have not yet linked mobile number and Aadhar number need to go to the enrollment centers to avail this facility.
