Colombia was surprise by its Christmas gift as they have discovered a Spanish galleon holding an estimated £1 billion worth of treasure.
San Jose galleon was discovered off the coast of Cartagena. According to the early reports, the ship was caring a massive haul of gold, silver and emralds.
Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has been quick to hail the discovery, increasing the hype surrounding the supposed value. He said, ‘This is the most valuable treasure that has been found in the history of humanity.’
This esteemed ship was part of the fleet that fought against England in the War of Spanish Succession , belonging to King Phillip V, and sank on June 8 1708.
